brilliant stuff, this cd kicks the shit out of any so called punk album that i've heard since the late seventies, if they'd wrote and given 'our street' to sham 69 they'd have took it up the charts a classic punk track. if you happen to be getting pissed when you're playing this cd it'll bounce you around the room slam you against the wall and leave you feeling like a pile of crap in the middle of the floor. resistance 77 are punk & oi! and they're now...classic punk, brilliant album.

this is one of the best punk albums i've heard for quite a while. resistance 77 remind us of how classic punk rock sounded back in the 70's, however their material is also laced with a more modern style of punk. their intros and impressive with good drums, dominant bass lines and powerful guitar. the lyrics and melodies are kept simple alongside some well crafted choruses. the nottingham based four-piece open this studio album with 'our street', a story of how our streets were safer in the past and the changes in society. how we now bring up our children is highlighted in the line 'we need to lock the parents up, if they dont know how to raise their kids'. this is told with a mass of powerful quitar and drums with lead vocalist oddy delivering his lyrics with passion and pride. 'true punk & oi!', 'one of the boys', and 'punk rock songs' are all performed in the style of classic punk but with more tuneful melodies than those of their contemporaries from the 70's. there is definitely a more updated punk sound on this album which is obviously evident in 'coming now for you' and 'jokes on me' in which resistance 77 save their 'green day' moment!
then there's the morbid soaked 'death is my release', a harrowing tale of a man who shoots his wife and kid and is sentenced to death by lethal injection, proving how varied this album actually is. the finale to this punk masterpiece is the folk-fuelled 'on the wagon' which brings the album to a close in a perfect way. |
